What would life be like if we didn't have to rely on fragile pieces of plastic to house our life's work, i.e. USB flash drives or other saving devices?
I mean, what if there was some other way to type and save documents without even having to use Microsoft Word?
Well, actually, there are other ways.
Try Google Docs or the Zoho suite at zoho.com. Simply sign-up for a free account and you have word processing, online presentation and [with Zoho] even database generating tools at your fingertips.
Best part, when you want to print out your paper, all you need to do is log on to your account anywhere you have internet access attached to a printer and pull up the document. Say goodbye to the panicked digging in every pocket of your bag or the tears when you get home and realize you've left your disk still plugged into the port of a computer in the school's lab.
Do you already have an account with Google Docs or Zoho? Please share your experiences by emailing me at kappel@aii.edu..

I LIKE FREE STUFF!
In particular, I like free software that makes my life easier.
If I've visited your class to give a research presentation, you may have heard me rave about a free citation software called Zotero. The website has all the tools available to help you get started, including online tutorials.
Once downloaded, Zotero is everywhere you are on the web and you can export citation information for books, online journals, and articles in MLA format (sound familiar?) from compatible websites. So download it -- for free -- and make citing your sources for papers actually fun.
VISIT ZOTERO AT http://www.zotero.org/ .
Is there free software you have found on the web that your fellow student might find handy? Please share by sending me, Kira Appel, an email at kappel@aii.edu.
